Update: The owner asked me to come back in and have my nails redone, which I appreciated. I’m sure the technicians weren’t crazy about having to do it. It took a long time to get the GelX extensions off, about an hour. Then another hour for a gel french manicure. I did try just the GelX polish on my natural nails and I like it much better. It’s slightly thicker than a regular shellac, and apparently when I go back in for a fill, they don’t have to file all the way down to my natural nails, so it should help my nails stay healthier and thicker. The glue on GelX extension nails I still do not recommend. The French tip turned out pretty well, not the cleanest I’ve ever had, but again I appreciate them redoing the manicure for me and at least now I can be happy with my nails for the next few weeks. *********** I am not sure if this was a fluke, or if the Gel X Nails just don’t end up looking nearly as neat as my natural nails…but I feel like I paid $90 for nails that look like I did them myself. I was a walk in here yesterday around 5:30, and they were super busy. I told them I’d be happy to come back with an appointment. They asked if I could come back at 6:15. I said, “Are you sure??” They said yes. I came back, and again asked, “Are you sure??” Because they still seemed busy. They said “Yes!! We’ll get you right in.” A half hour went by and I got up and politely said I think I needed to come back with an appointment because my daughter was with me and it was getting late. (They close at 7:30, anyway.) They said, “No, no, no! We’re ready for you.” I chose the new GelX manicure extensions. The first thing I didn’t love was that the tech kept burning my cuticles and nails with the drill…then when she had glued all the extensions on, I noticed quite a few were crooked. I politely pointed that out and she said, “Oh don’t worry, we’ll fix that when we file and shape them.” Well….they continued to look crooked to me. I decided to let most of them just be crooked, but one in particular was super crooked. She told me, “No, that’s just how your nail grows.” Now, I’ve had my nails done for years and years at various salons, I’ve never ever had them look crooked. Regardless of whether it’s gel on my natural nails or if I have tips on them, I have never had crooked nails. The technician asked another girl to look at my nails and she also said, “Oh that’s just from your perspective, from here they look straight.” I can turn my hand and see them from someone else’s view…they are still crooked. Then another tech, I think she may have been the owner or manager, came over and looked and I don’t know if she was just trying to be polite and appease me or if she saw the mistake, but she apologized and told her to redo the one nail. Which meant soaking it off, drilling it off and gluing a new nail on. Which takes time…that neither I nor they wanted to spend. It goes both ways. When they put the new extension back on they waaay over corrected, I tried to show them where I wanted it before they glued it, but when she did it was still pointing off center quite a bit, just in the opposite direction than before. At that point everyone is tired and I just need to get my kiddo home so I didn’t say anything else and just let them finish. I also don’t feel like the manicure looks very smooth around the cuticles or under the nail tips. I know these ladies work really hard and I am not a rude or pushy person…I’m just really sad that I spent so much money and time on a nail job I’m really not happy with, and I feel like if I would have asked to come back in, it would have been met with frustration instead of understanding and apology. People shouldn’t have to come back in to get things redone, and it’s not fun for them to have to spend time fixing a job rather than servicing another client. So although I’m resigned to just let these nails be, I would still like them to be aware of my experience, even if mine is not the usual experience people have there.

Jessica has been doing my nails for four years and I consistently get compliments and asked where I get my nails done. Galaxy Nails Cottonwood is simply the best. It’s clean, they do fast great work, and everyone there is kind and service oriented. I will continue getting manicures and pedicures here for years to come.

As a professional hair and makeup artist, I have been to countless nail salons over the years. I’m extremely particular about detail, symmetry, nail health, and overall artistry, and Jessica at Galaxy Nails in Cottonwood Heights truly stands in a category of her own. When I moved to California a few years ago, I went to seven different nail salons trying to find someone who could match her level of precision and care. That alone should say something. Recently, something came up and I couldn’t make my appointment with Jessica, so I went to another galaxy nails location. Unfortunately, I left feeling really upset with how my nails turned out. However, when I came back to see Jessica, she didn’t rush me, dismiss me, or make me feel dramatic. She genuinely listened. She took extra time to carefully fix everything and made sure I walked out feeling confident again. That level of care is rare. Jessica is incredibly personable, when you sit in her chair, you feel seen and heard. She pays attention not only to the shape and structure of the nail, but also to the health of your natural nails underneath. Her attention to detail is truly unmatched, and that’s coming from someone in the beauty industry who works at a very high standard every day. What I love most about the Cottonwood Heights location is that Jessica oversees and trains the entire team there. That gives me so much peace of mind knowing the standard of excellence carries throughout the salon. She does book out, so make sure you pre-book. I promise she is worth the wait. If you’re looking for a nail artist who genuinely cares, listens to your concerns, and delivers flawless results, Jessica at Galaxy Nails in Cottonwood Heights is the one.
