Been going here on and off for about a year and a half. Both hairdressers (Rachel, Davidas, and Adae) I've had have been amazing. All staff are super nice. And they're very accomodating, and still mask and encourage visitors to mask as well.

Open Out was highly recommended by many people from UCL's LGBTQ+ network, so I thought I'd give it a visit! Everyone here was so welcoming and absolutely wonderful and went above and beyond to accommodate my needs :) I was really worried getting my first masc haircut – particularly being new to London – but Ruaa did an incredible job (even based off a single hazy instagram screenshot), and it's been bringing me so much joy just seeing my new hair in the mirror every day!!! It immediately feels like a safe space from the moment you walk in, and I know I'll be back here again ♥️

When I first walked in and sat down to wait for my appointment, I started crying. I haven't seen other LGBT people for a while, I've only been hearing awful news and vitriol about us online. Coming in to see walls covered in LGBT+ pride was cathartic, and really made me feel safe after having stopped going to barbers for fear of being outed. You can absolutely feel the love that went into making this place as comfortable and safe as possible. The seating area has games and fidget toys to mess around with while you wait, and they've made sure everyone wears face masks to assure those vulnerable are able to have a safe experience here. It really meant a lot to me, seeing the effort that was put into make this place as inclusive as possible. My hairdresser was Hugo, and they did an amazing job. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair, but Hugo helped me figure it out and I was incredibly pleased with the result. I've had to cut my own hair at home since I stopped going to the barber, and since having this haircut I've finally been able to look in the mirror again and not feel ashamed of what I see. Hugo informed me on how I can take care of my hair, what shampoos they thought would work best, and taught me about how clays and gels work so I could decide on how to style my hair in the future. I'd always be too afraid to speak at barbers, so being able to finally ask questions and be informed was a really important experience for me. Their recommendations have helped so much. I fear I may have been a little overzealous in how chatty I was, I was a bit too excited meeting with another trans person, but Hugo was conversational and kind. I felt heard, even if it wasn't their job to do that. I'll definitely be going back here regularly for my haircuts. I haven't had such a positive experience going anywhere in a very long time. Honestly, I wish I could give it more than 5 stars, lol. If you're a trans or queer and don't feel safe getting your haircut elsewhere, I can't recommend this place enough.

I travelled from Cambridgeshire to Open out because I had heard such positive things about this place. Great safe space for LGBTQIA+ people, with lots of advice and support, especially for those newly wanting to express themselves through their hair. I also love that they have a pay what you can option for those that need it. I would very much recommend this non-profit social enterprise!

got my hair re-styled by rachel a couple of days ago and it was one of the loveliest experiences, as soon as you walk through the door the atmosphere and decorations are so welcoming, as well as the staff on the desk. a range of queer things to look at while you’re waiting and games! then on to the hair cut, rachel was so understanding and was great at helping me figure out exactly what i wanted as well as not making me feel bad for asking for more cut off after the initial cut! thank you
