Customer Reviews for Sharkey's Cuts For Kids

Sharkey’s Cuts is my 5-year-old daughter’s favorite place! When she gets her regular haircut, they treat her like a little lady: washing her hair with shampoo and even offering to paint her nails with a quick dry under the lamp as a sweet complimentary service. At the same time, she still gets a balloon and a lollipop, so it’s double happiness for her! As a parent, I can say the quality of the haircuts is great too.

Update: If Kaileigh had been our stylist from the beginning it would be 5 stars. The way she handled the whole situation was great. She reached out to apologize for our first visit, acknowledged how uncomfortable it was, and offered to have us come back in on a different day to fix his hair when the other stylist wouldn't be there. She was kind and patient. She showed him all of her tools as we went and gave him short breaks when he was getting tired of sitting. We talked about what I want his hair to grow into and she did her best to get it to a place where it can grow out well. There's still one spot where its much shorter, but she couldn't do much about that beyond texturing it to help it blend in or making the whole cut incredibly short so we landed on texturing it. I think it looks so much better. She also made sure we got our certificate and a bag for his lock of hair that I got from the first visit. *** I was so shocked by this experience that I didn't say anything at the time, but I wish I had. My son is 16 months and we went for his first haircut today. I specifically chose a children's hair salon because it was his first one, plus online it says they offer a keepsake which seemed nice. I got there a few minutes early and Malek was the only employee there. She pushed really hard that she should take the appointment instead of who we scheduled with and implied that Lucienne might not be coming in. So I caved and said that was fine. She assumed my son was a girl, which didn't really bother me until she started saying "don't worry he'll look like a boy again before you leave"- which she repeated several times. In the moment I couldn't really believe I heard that and so I didn't respond. Boys can have long hair and I told her we like his hair long, but his bangs are getting in his eyes and the back catches in his bib so we just want it trimmed up. She did not care what I wanted and started cutting his hair really short then after doing half of the back asked if it was okay. At that point I said can't go back now can we. She was pretty impatient with him and kept trying to give him directions like you would an older kid. When he didn't understand "look down" she just said it louder. I tried my best to keep him interested in looking at me, but since it was a new experience he wanted to know what was going on. When she pulled out the clippers he wanted to see them and she said "you don't need to see" and hid them from him, which I could see being a safety concern but she didn't express that she just hid it from him which caused him to get upset. She did not wait for him to settle when he was getting frustrated at any point and as a result he has a really jagged cut. I had hoped that a kids hair salon would be more patient. The other stylist came in right on time and was very polite and said hello to everyone. Then she looked at the computer and seemed pretty upset, not with me but she definitely gave a shocked look to the other stylist. I felt so bad that we had taken business from her because Malek implied she wasn't coming and that we shouldn't wait after arriving early. I was very clear it was our first time and yet was not offered a lock of hair or the certificate that come with a first hair cut, which was a part of why I came here in the first place. I attempted to ask, but Malek walked away to go ring me up. So I grabbed some of the hair that was left on the cape. She then leaned over the screen while I checked out which felt really uncomfortable as that's where you leave a tip. I'll be honest I left a bad tip because I got bad service. Before we left Lucienne made a point to engage with my son and offer him a balloon even though she didn't get the commission or tip she should have from our service. Malek asked me to use her name in the review so credit where it is due.

This place is fantastic! We've been to several other kids' barbers and Sharkey's is by far the best. Shout out to Malek who gave both my kids their cuts. She's great! Cut it exactly how we asked and was extremely patient with them. They also included nail polishing with my younger one's haircut. The whole experience was fantastic and the price was very reasonable. Thank you!
