Oliver Wendell Holmes once said of F.D.R. "That man has a second class intellect, but a first class temperament". Considering how successful F.D.R.'s political career was, this says a lot about the importance of how you emotionally interact with people. Now imagine combining a first class temperament along with first class hair cutting skills, and then you will have some idea of the experience awaiting you at Star Barber Shop in Rutland, Vermont. I am not from Vermont, I don't pretend to be from Vermont, and I was only visiting Vermont because I was up here, dealing with a tough personal situation. During a break from that ordeal, all I wanted to do was feel good for a little while. A great haircut has been known to do that for me and a lot of other people. Hence why I sojourned into this establishment. Star Barber shop is clean, the decor has a story all to itself, and the prices are amazing, especially considering the quality of work they do. That smile on my face was the first one I had in days. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough. These are highly skilled, warm, and inviting people. Will definitely be back, next time I am in the area.

I've been going here for about half a year now. It is a great establishment ran by great people. Mason always cuts my hair; he is the best barber I've ever had. I won't go anywhere else after going to this barbershop. 5/5

My older sons bought hair cuts from the apprentice program. They were so happy with the cuts. It was a comfortable setting and people were very polite. Money well spent. The apprentices took time to talk to my sons about all kinds of topics and they came across as good mentors. We're very happy!

I'm a new transplant to VT and had been looking for a good barber shop. I'm done looking! I booked an appointment for today and it was amazing. I'm ex-military and like it very short on sides and top. Plus I have a beard that always needs a trim. This is the first place that gave me the haircut l wanted first try. Dean cut my hair, trimmed my beard, and then shaved my neck. Perfection! All for $28! Incredible that after 11 months of searching I finally can get a haircut that I like. Thank you, Dean!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bill Mazzariello at Star Barber Shop is the real deal. This is one of the longest-running family-owned barbershops in Vermont, and you can feel that history as soon as you walk in. Bill has been cutting hair for over 30 years and is the only barber in the area who still uses a straight razor—a lost art that makes a huge difference in the quality of the cut. The vibe at Star Barber Shop is exactly what a barbershop should be: welcoming, no-frills, and all about the craft. You walk in, have a good conversation, get a clean, professional cut, and leave feeling better than when you came in. Places like this are rare, and it’s clear that Bill takes pride in keeping the tradition alive. Definitely worth stopping in if you’re in Rutland.
