Muslim-Friendly Hair Experience at Uhuru Highly Recommended I want to share something truly positive. As a Muslim woman, I wear hijab and I cannot show my hair to anyone except my husband and other women. Finding a salon that understands the need for privacy can be difficult. I called Uhuru, and spoke with a woman named Erica. I explained my situation and asked if there was any way to have my hair done in privacy. She told me they didn’t have a private room, and at first I felt discouraged… but then she showed me what true kindness looks like. She accommodated me, she made time for me, and through Allah’s blessings she created a safe and private space for me. She set up a divider so I could be completely comfortable and respected while getting my locs done. She treated me with understanding, patience, and genuine care. Her kindness meant more to me than she even knows. For all my Muslim sisters looking for privacy while getting locs, retwists, or protective styles Uhuru is a great place, and Erica is truly someone I recommend. The shop is amazing. Erica is amazing. May Allah bless her and reward her for the respect and hospitality she showed.

Sara did a great job on my hair! I was extremely happy with the service she provided. One thing I will say is that this is a very quiet salon. The first hour I was there and then sporadically throughout the rest of the time there was no music. The stylists didn't talk very much either. I hope we can get the music going and consistent at least on my next visit because I will for sure be back for the hair styling.

I can’t say enough great things about UHURU Natural Hair Salon, especially Sara, who has truly been a lifesaver for us. Sara is our go-to detangler for my daughter, who is 8 years old, mixed, and has naturally curly hair that tangles and dreads very easily. When her hair gets to the point where we can’t comb it out at home, Sara steps in with so much patience, skill, and care. She has a gentle technique that allows her to slowly and carefully work through the toughest tangles without hurting my daughter’s head. That alone means everything as a parent. We’ve been to Sara about 2–4 times specifically for the detangling process. While it is an investment (about $100 per hour and usually takes 2–3 hours), she gets the job done—and done right. I’m always apologizing for letting my daughter’s hair get to that point and feeling bad that she has to sit through it, but Sara never makes us feel judged. She’s kind, understanding, and incredibly professional. The alternative—cutting her hair off—is way scarier, and thanks to Sara, we don’t have to go there. If you’re a parent of a mixed child or a child with very curly hair and you’re feeling overwhelmed, book with Sara. She is worth every penny, and I’m beyond grateful for her care and expertise. Highly recommend UHURU and Sara to any parent needing real help with detangling mixed kids’ curls
